A seniors' advocate is critical of Covenant Health's cuts to nursing care at three seniors facilities in the Edmonton area.
The company is cutting the equivalent of 10 nursing jobs at the three facilities, as well as several therapeutic staff, and hiring nine lower-paid health-care aide positions.
It is also targeting peak times to focus staffing levels.
Covenant Health has been reducing essential nursing and personal care for more than a decade, said Carol Wodak, with Seniors Action Liaison Team (SALT).
"The thought that someone would focus care on peak periods instead of understanding these people need not only 24-7 monitoring and care services, but (also) people to understand how their situations are changing, which can happen from one minute to the next, or day to day," she said.
